Week 3: Background Searching on the Web

Part 1

1    1. My research topic is Self-serving bias.
2    a.) The research engine that I’m using will be doaj.org
b.) The topic involves language, emotions, addictions.
c.)  Some subtopics are education, ethics, and politics.
d.) A possible research question can be self-serving bias in ethics, self-serving bias on the workplace.
e.) Distinctive: attribution
     Broad: social psychology
     Narrow: self-esteem
     Related: narcissism

   c.) There are no warning messages on the article
   d.) The article has referenced facts and claims
   e.) The article is clear and readable but does not have illustrations.
   f.) I think the number of references are appropriate, the type of sources are journal articles and           there are external links and further reading.

2. a.) WikiProjects: WikiProject Business, WikiProject Philosophy, WikiProject Politics, and WikiProject Psychology
    b.) Rated Start-class, High-importance, Rated Start-class, Low-importance, Rated Start-class, High-importance, and Rated Start-class, Mid-importance.
    c.) I agree with the rating on the article.
    d.) There are no disputes or comments on the article’s Talk page.

3. a.) There is nothing that concerns me about the editing history. They just have changed wording and grammar

This week I learned about the Wikipedia “Talk” page and the history page. I also learned that there are alternate searching engines and finally how to label search terms.

  1. Very concise and well organized analysis.

    "Attribution" is not a very distinctive term, because it can be used in numerous other contexts having nothing to do with self-serving bias. These items will clutter your results. "Self-serving bias" is a pretty distinct term however. You'll get a more manageable number of and more relevant results searching with that.
